Perinatal clinical trials
PRaMM (Perinatal Research and Maternal Medicine) researchers are conducting a number of clinical trials that will help inform best practice in pregnancy and the newborn period.
Our research midwives and trial coordinator make direct contact with women and their families to discuss the different projects that are being carried out by PRaMM researchers.
The researchers are indebted to the women who participate in the studies. Whilst being aware of the fact that the research may not benefit them directly, they know their input will help women in similar circumstances to them in the future.
Some of the trials currently in progress are:
PPROMT (Preterm Prelabour Rupture of Membranes Trial)
Investigating the management of preterm prelabour rupture of membranes in women who are 34-37 weeks' gestation. Currently there are two standard approaches used equally at centres around the world:
- immediate delivery
- watchful waiting approach
which are used equally at centres around the world.
PPROMT is a randomised controlled trial, set up to inform obstetricians and midwives of most effective approach to take when a patient experiences preterm prelabour rupture of membranes. This is the largest trial ever undertaken concerning the management of labour in this circumstance.
CiPS (Candida in Pregnancy Study)
The Candida in Pregnancy Study, is looking at the birth outcomes for women who have asymptomatic candida in early pregnancy.
Cars & Scars
Investigating what information that is provided to women about driving after a caesarean section, and what women do following a caesarean section.
